The Marcus Corporation was founded by Ben Marcus in 1935 with the opening of a single movie theatre in Ripon, Wisconsin. This marked the start of what would become one of the nation’s leading entertainment and lodging companies. Today, The Marcus Corporation is a publicly held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol MCS. Ben’s son, Stephen H. Marcus, is chairman of the company, while Stephen’s son, Gregory S. Marcus, is president and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corporation.
The Marcus Corporation has two divisions, Marcus Theatres, and Marcus Hotels and Resorts. Marcus Theatres® is the fourth largest theatre circuit in the United States and currently owns or operates 1,106 screens at 91 locations in 17 states under the Marcus Theatres, Movie Tavern® by Marcus and BistroPlex brands, and one family entertainment center in Wisconsin.
